Prof. Werner E. G. Müller from the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz Germany, who is a senator and academician of the Erfurt Academy of Sciences, visited Shanxi University and delivered a talk intitled as “Amorphous Polyphosphate: A Novel Intelligent Biomaterial, Appropriate for the Applications in Regenerative Medicine” at IBMS, invited by Prof. Changxin Wu, on May 15, 2019. Prof. Müller introduced his series of studies on the amorphous polyphosphate, in particular, its application as a new intelligent biomaterial in regenerative medicine by virtue of the effect on cell growth and tissue engineering. The presentation has inspired great interest for the novel area from our staff and students.

Prof. Müller is an internationally renowned physiological chemists and biologist; he conducted seminal studies on siliceous sponges with many novel discoveries. He is the editors for several internationally high impact journals, the editor-in-chief of the book series "Nucleic Acids Research", "Progress in Molecular and Subcellular Biology" and "Mechanism of Ageing and Development". He has won several well-known awards for his outstanding work in cell biology, molecular biology and biomineralization, such as Boehringer Award for Excellence in Pathophysiology Research (1972), Johann-Georg-Zimmermann Award for Excellence in Cancer Research (1977), Max-Bürger Award for Gerontology (1980). Prof. Müller has published more than a thousand research papers, including those in journals Nature, Cell. As a special guest to celebrate the 117th anniversary of Shanxi University and the 2nd anniversary of our institute, Prof. Müller had this visit and initiated our mutual academic exchanges and collaborations in such exciting area of research.
