During 10^th-16^th May, Prof.Bin Xie, from the Department of Pure and Applied Biochemistry, Lund University, Sweden, visited this Institute of Biomedical Sciences, invited by Dr. Qinglai Meng. Dr. Xie has expertise in development of enzyme-based thermistor to measure a variety of metabolites in human body. One of the potential and specific applications of the device is to measure the metabolism of certain drugs instantly and continuously. During his visit, Dr. Xie discussed widely and exchanged views on this novel enzyme-based thermistor with several groups of this institute. An initial collaboration framework has been set up between Shanxi University (Dr. Meng’s Group), the first affiliated hospital of Shanxi Medical University (Dr. Zhang’s Group) and Lund University (Dr. Xie’s Group) on evaluation of the efficacy of such enzyme-based thermistor for clinically instant diagnosis of antibiotic resistance. As an extension of this collaboration, it has been envisaged to develop a novel strategy for diagnosis of human rare genetic disease by a further collaboration with Dr. Changxin Wu and Dr. Han Xiao. Before heading back to Sweden, Dr. Xie delivered a talk, entitled “The methodology of dynamitic surveillance of diabetes”, to the whole institute.
