On June 23, 2019, the 2^nd “Sanjin Stem Cell Forum” symposium was successfully held at the Academic Center in Shanxi University organized by Shanxi Biotechnology Society and hosted by Shanxi University Institute of Biomedical Sciences (IBMS).

The forum special guests included Mr Liming Chen, Secretary General of Shanxi Biotechnology Society, Mrs jingxia Cheng, Deputy Secretary General of Shanxi Biotechnology Society, Mr Qi Li, Director of Social Development Department Shanxi Province, Professor Zhuoyu Li, Dean of the College of Life Sciences Shanxi University and Vice Chairman of the Shanxi Biotechnology Society. Participants were scholars, entrepreneurs and clinical experts from Shanxi University and Shanxi Medical University, industry and major clinical hospitals in Shanxi Province.

Prof Zhuoyu Li chaired the Forum with a welcome speech, Mr Liming Chen made a keynote speech on current situation and prospects of stem cell research and development in Shanxi Province. Mr Yong Liu, the director of Science and Technology Department of Shanxi University and host of this symposium introduced the work of IBMS as the stem cell platform of Shanxi University and the key role in clinical translation in Shanxi.

Eight invited stem cell experts and clinicians gave wonderful talks from basic science to clinical application and industrial commercialization of stem cells, including Dr. Zeping Lu from the Key Laboratory of Tianjin Stem Cell Regeneration Medicine on “ At the eve of dawn, to jointly promote the clinical translation of stem cell technologies”, Prof. Linhua Yang from the Second Hospital of Shanxi Medical University on “The clinical application and progress of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation technology”, Prof. Liyun Zhang from Shanxi University Hospital on "The effect of MSCs and exosomes on bone destruction in CIA rats and its mechanism", Prof. Liaoyun Zhang from the First Hospital of Shanxi Medical University on “Treatment of severe liver disease in cell therapy”, Prof. Yi Ping from the Second Hospital of Shanxi Medical University on “Study on endometrial mesenchymal stem cells and microvesicles in the treatment of pelvic floor organ prolapse in rats”, Dr. Hongxia Li from Shanxi Institute of Reproductive Medicine on "The Effect of Mouse Endometrial Mesenchymal Stem Cells on Thin Endometrial Repair", Dr. Zhong Cheng from Shanxi Medical University on “The basic problem of clinical application of mesenchymal stem cells - how to improve the clinical application of stem cells”, and finally, Prof. Yuyou Duan from the Medical College of South China University of Technology on “Application of Embryonic Stem Cell-derived Hepatocytes for Biopharmaceuticals and Medical Applications”. The talks all received enthusiastic response from the participants.

After the eight talks, a round-table discussion was held among the participating experts, entrepreneurs and governmental officers for stem cell research and applications in Shanxi Province. This forum not only created a good academic atmosphere, but also further promoted the in-depth cooperation among universities, medical institutions and industry in stem cell research and development, and played an important positive role in promoting the translation of stem cell technologies in this province.
